John has been working with high temperature alloys since 2009 when designing a high temperature liquid rocket injector test stand. Spending most of the design time on alloy selection he fell in love with metallurgy, conducting research under Philip Nash in the area of alloy discovery and experimental thermodynamics. His work included phase equilibria of Heusler alloys with a focus on ferrous systems. Other projects include double aging of AA6061 and AA7075 for strength and corrosion resistance and design of apparatus to simultaneously gather magnetic and structural phase transformation data as a function of temperature via modified DSC/TGA. John has performed experimental heat treatment for the development of Si, mixed metal, and mixed metal oxide anodes for lithium ion batteries at a startup called SiNode Systems, and he's currently working at Intertek in the area of consulting and failure analysis with projects in welding and post weld heat treatment, heat treatment of high energy piping, and alloy design/treatment for corrosion, consuming much of his day to day work.
