Kelly Peters – Heat Treat Today: Class of 2020
Kelly Peters' recent promotion to vice president of the Port Huron facility was earned through demonstrated initiatives and performances on her part. She has steadily progressed through the ranks over the past 12 years from entry floor laborer upon opening of the facility until the position she recently attained. The route she took was impressive due to her eventual oversight of the Metallurgical Lab and Quality Department as a tier-one supplier to automotive and tier-two to aerospace industries.
Her progressive advances were: manufacturing associate in manufacturing, where she was exposed to the start-up of one of the largest heat treat sites in the country with 41 vacuum furnaces; lab associate, where she learned the metallurgical principles of heat treat and worked the met lab making mounts and dry lab doing hardness and process validations; supervisor of Metallurgical Lab, being responsible for the validation and assurances that all required heat treat specifications are attained and qualified prior to customer shipment; manager of Metallurgical Lab and Quality Department, being responsible for both departments and the responsibility it entails; director of Operations and responsible for the operations portion of the site with managers from Quality, Manufacturing, Logistics, Maintenance, SH&E and Metallurgical Lab as direct reports; and finally, her recent promotion to vice president, which makes Kelly fully responsible for all operations functions of the site including finance and IT.
She has an eye for detail and relies heavily on employee involvement and engagement for safety and continuous improvement initiatives. The mention of a difficult route is important when you are a direct supplier of contractual heat treat services to some of the most stringent and demanding customers in automotive and aerospace. Her positions required her to be the interface with quality matters throughout her career and demonstrated a maturity and tactfulness to interact professionally and respectfully. Kelly is deemed "very knowledgeable" in heat treat processing due to her exposure and training during her time at ALD and can operate any equipment she is responsible to oversee.
Additionally, she has facilitated certifications in TS, ISO, OHSAS, AS and ISMS. The site is nearing accreditation to NADCAP. The site has received the prestigious award as General Motors Supplier Quality Award recipient for the past six consecutive years through 2019 and steady favorable feedback from all customers. Kelly was a key to our success. Kelly is well on her way to completing her formal education and is commendably balancing the added responsibilities at ALD as well as enjoying a happy home life with her husband and six-year-old son.
