Laura Oviedo – Heat Treat Today 40 Under 40
Laura Oviedo began working at Global Thermal Solutions (GTS) 11 years ago and has grown consistently in her evolving responsibilities. First, as a special projects engineer, Laura was tasked with investigating solutions to technically challenging problems that then-upstart GTS encountered. She always delivered insightful and useful solutions due to her extensive knowledge in pyrometry and willingness to clarify points and alleviate client concerns in an urgent manner.
Now, as a technical assistance engineer, Laura continues using her experience to help GTS clients overcome challenges. Making a particular effort to become an expert at interpreting compliance documents around the Nadcap requirements, Laura has been indispensable in helping Mexico’s aerospace and automotive industry grow into one of the obvious destinations for manufacturing. Alongside all these efforts, Laura also manages accounts for GTS Mexico, in central and northeast Mexico.
This past year, Laura has been actively training her clients through small training sessions on site or online (as required), either updating her current clients on the new revision of AMS2750 or giving their new colleagues an introduction to pyrometry. These four-hour training sessions have focused on providing basic knowledge to clients or training them in new requirements for the specification required. Laura herself loves learning about new requirements and technologies — recently she has been learning about brazing and CQI-29 — so that she is able to provide new trainings for her clients.
Always a gregarious and upbeat person, people enjoy working and learning from her. An owner of a heat treat software company who works with Laura stated, “I see her as an indispensable colleague in ushering in the next generation of technology to improve quality in our industry.”
