Jennifer Bendle – Heat Treat Today 40 Under 40
Company: Specialty Steel Treating
Position: Metallurgist & QA Engineer
Jennifer Bendle is a materials science engineer with a five-year background in heat treating aerospace components and materials testing. At Specialty Steel Treating, Jennifer assists with heat treat process cards and rework cycles, but mainly focuses on pyrometry and reviewing and maintaining pyrometry records (SATs, TUSs, and furnace calibrations) for 47 furnaces and freezers. A hands-on worker, Jennifer enjoys problem solving and using her past technical writing experiences to modernize, streamline, and (in some cases) overhaul Specialty Steel Treating’s internal documents. In the last calendar year, Jennifer updated over 50 operating procedures and process work instructions.
As quality manager at Specialty Steel Treating, Jennifer leads the quality department to: focus on performance, integrity, and improvement; provide customer assistance; and support both customer and industry audits as needed to maintain AS9100, TS 16949, and Nadcap accreditations. Jennifer has worked diligently to investigate and conduct Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) to make process improvements that incorporate error-proofing, minimize risk of reoccurrence, and develop training materials.
She also works with shop personnel to change the focus from corrective actions to preventative actions by conducting introductory training sessions on problem solving, Six Sigma, and associated tools.
