Alex Luyima is a graduate of Makerere University in Uganda where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Chemistry/Chemical Engineering. He received a Master of Science in Light Metals Production from Norwegian University of Science and Technology before coming to Missouri University of Science and Technology to earn his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering. Currently, he is the materials and metallurgical engineer for Toyota North America, Inc. In this position, he conducts mechanical testing and analysis of ferrous (steel and cast iron) and non-ferrous (aluminum/magnesium) alloys and creates analyses of metal and electrodeposited polymeric coatings (thickness, density, corrosion, surface roughness, etc.). Among many other laboratory tasks, he also conducts failure analysis of automotive metal parts for Toyota and trains metallurgical technicians.
