Heat Treat Company Adds Nitrocarburizing System

Heat Treatments, a heat treatment services provider, has added a nitrocarburizing system from a North American based company. The system supports the heat treater’s nitrocarburizing efforts, which include a variety of materials and applications, such as alloy steels, tool steels, and high-speed steels for aluminum extrusion dies.

The NXK series sees the furnace and control panel mounted on an integral platform. The particular NXK-812 model is designed to treat workloads weighing up to 2645 lbs., with measurements of 31.5″ x 47.25″. The system is equipped with process technologies such as  Nitreg®-C controlled nitrocarburizing and ONC® post-oxidation.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Heat Treatments . . . in New Zealand,” said Nikola Dzepina, account executive, Nitrex. “[P]rior installations [have been] in operation between 20-30 years.”

The system was commissioned in the first quarter of 2023.

Arslan Aluminyum recently added three new extrusion presses to its production, increasing the demand for nitriding their dies and necessitating a large-capacity nitriding system for the biggest press. The system will nitride H11 and H13 dies that extrude aluminum profiles for the construction, renewables, joinery, furniture, and equipment sectors.

When the plant upgraded, the new nitriding system furnace was required to help double the production capacity. Arslan selected a NX-1015 pit furnace designed to treat workloads up to 4400 lbs that are 39″x59". The collaboration with Nitrex and Arslan Aluminyum started in 2011, when the family-run business purchased an NX-812 turnkey nitriding system.

The YAZICI TRANSFER MAKINA company decided to increase its heat treat capacity in Istanbul with a second turnkey nitrocarburizing system from a Canadian furnace manufacturer. This decision specifically increases the manufacturing capacity of tooling and machinery components for the company’s precision CNC machines. It started production with the new system in the fall of 2021, and is used for Nitreg®-C nitrocarburizing and ONC® in-process oxidation treatments.

This second NITREX furnace is the same type as the first installation, a compact size NXK series furnace that became operational in 2019, simply bigger. Marcin Stokłosa, project manager at NITREX Poland, describes the turnkey system as a "solution that improves the company’s bottom line and reaffirms its commitment to sustainable manufacturing."

For the manufacturer, the Nitreg®-C nitrocarburizing and ONC® in-process oxidation will give a combined ability to improve the wear and corrosion properties of alloy and carbon steel parts.

"In the beginning, YAZICI TRANSFER MAKINA was relying on a very well-known commercial heat treater from the Turkish market to nitrocarburize the parts it needed," says Utku Inan, Nitrex representative in Turkey. "Now, the company has moved heat treating operations in-house, purchasing its own systems to nitrocarburize metal parts, which saves the company on lead time and transportation costs."
